if you can’t breathe tonight, listen to me:
get up. I don’t give a fuck what you’re doing, stand up. wriggle your fingers and toes, and stretch your neck and back. I don’t care if you have to go to the bathroom to find a space to do this, just do it.
wash your face, and your hands, with ice cold water. feel it as more than a cold embrace; feel it as a washing off of everything negative you’re feeling. then go change your clothes, you’ve been sweating in what you’re wearing. put on something light and cool. maybe some nice pyjamas. and some nice socks - don’t forget the socks. don’t ask me why, they just make it easier.
get yourself into a fairly big space where you’re alone; outside if possible, but if not then crack open a window. feel the air slap your face. tie up your hair, too; you’ll feel less closed in. again, don’t ask me why, it just makes it easier.
listen to music that doesn’t involve a heavy beat. something along the lines of the xx, or something involving a soft guitar. let it poke at the silence like putty in your hands, and let your anxieties drown out with it.
get yourself a cold glass of water and breathe slowly. you don’t want to wake the Night, do you? it’s already doing its job casting darkness everywhere, no need to let it walk in your brain, too.
make a list of everything that has made you feel overwhelmed, I don’t care how long or short it is. rip it up, or get a lighter and burn it if possible, or put it into a shredder, or make it bedding for your pet hamster. just get rid of it, and as you rip it feel it rip itself off your skin too. it can’t touch you anymore, your skin is raw and pure now. you are immune.
if i ever met a genie i wouldnt wish for a million dollars id wish that whenever i bought something i’d always have the right amount of money to pay for it in my pocket
